SHAH ALAM, May 8 — Messages of support continue to pour in for Selangor FC stalwart Faisal Halim following the recent acid attack against him, as people from all walks of life stand in solidarity with the national footballer.

On social media site X, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari urged Selangor citizens to unite in condemning the heinous act of violence against Faisal and offer their support and prayers for his full recovery.

“There is no place for violence in football,” he said in a couple of posts today.

“The tragedy that happened not only shattered the life of a spirited and patriotic individual who has constantly strived to honour the country’s name, but also tainted the nation’s number one sport.”

On May 5, it was reported that the 26-year-old Faisal, who is fondly known as Mickey, suffered an acid attack at a shopping mall in the Klang Valley.

Football Association of Selangor (FAS) deputy president Datuk Seri Shahril Mokhtar said yesterday that the sensational winger suffered fourth-degree burns as a result of the incident.

He is being treated in a hospital and is expected to undergo multiple surgeries.

Meanwhile, Selangor FC took to X to condemn the attack and called on everyone to stand and rally behind “the boy from the coastal plains of Penang with a big dream”.

“This is more than just football. This is about humanity,” it said.

“Thus, in solidarity with Faisal, we at Selangor FC would like to invite everyone to ‘STAND WITH FAISAL HALIM’ and ‘STOP THE VIOLENCE’. Violence in whatever form has no place in our game and nobody deserves to be hurt.”

The club said football is supposed to be a tool of unity and not meant to divide the people, while pointing out that footballers work hard to entertain the public week in and week out.

“Faisal is no different from any other athlete, sacrificing his blood, sweat and tears to give us joy and have something to celebrate together.”

In a separate post, Selangor FC shared a touching video featuring Faisal that has been shared over 5,000 times and viewed close to 200,000 times.

The accompanying caption read: “He’s just a small boy from Penang with a big dream. Exhibiting magic with the ball at his feet. A national hero in the eyes and hearts of many. The kindest of souls. The passion and love for his teammates; never up for debate. He has always brought joy to our lives and smiles to our faces. Now it’s time for us to stand with him.”

“We stand with you, Mickey. Forever and always.”
