SHAH ALAM, May 6 — Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj wants the police investigation into the acid attack on Selangor FC player Faisal Halim to consider the possibility that football hooligans were involved

His Royal Highness and Raja Muda Selangor Tengku Amir Shah, who are Selangor FC’s patron and chairman, respectively, vehemently condemn the immoral attack.

A statement by the Selangor Royal Office yesterday said Their Highnesses urged the police to investigate the case thoroughly and identify the incident’s root cause so its perpetrators can be swiftly apprehended.

Sultan Sharafuddin is also concerned that if the matter is not promptly addressed, it could escalate and potentially lead to a worse outcome in the future.

“His Royal Highness views this incident seriously and wants the investigation also to consider the possibility of involvement by groups with malicious intent or public defiance, such as football hooligans.

“The Sultan is extremely disappointed and considers the incident to be excessive, as it involves the lives of athletes,” it said yesterday evening.

The Ruler also urged any individuals with information about the attack to come forward and cooperate with the police.

“His Royal Highness prays for Faisal Halim’s swift recovery to full health so that he can resume his services to Selangor FC.”

It was reported yesterday that Faisal, fondly known as Mickey, suffered an acid attack believed to have occurred at a shopping mall in Kota Damansara.

Selangor FC team manager Mahfizul Rusydin Abdul Rashid confirmed the matter when contacted by Bernama after the case went viral on social media.

State executive councillor for sports Mohd Najwan Halimi said Faisal suffered from second-degree burns on his neck, shoulder, arm, and chest following the attack, and is currently being treated at a hospital in Petaling Jaya.

He is reportedly in a stable condition.

Meanwhile, Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari strongly condemned the inhuman attacks against Faisal and Terengganu FC player Akhyar Rashid, who was the victim of a mugging case earlier last week.

“This thuggery is too much and should not have happened. I urge the police to conduct a thorough investigation and pray for the swift recovery of both players, InsyaAllah,” he said in a Facebook post yesterday evening.
