‘Any claims of cronyism in PKR must be proven’

By Syauqi Jamil

KOTA RAJA: PKR Sungai Kandis by-election candidate Mohd Zawawi Ahmad Mughni today declared war against the culture of nepotism and cronyism in Selangor.

He said if there were claims that such practice exists within PKR than the matter needs to be discussed and proven so that the people can differentiate between truth and ill intentions.

“Firstly, is it true that this really happened in PKR… Or is this just a perception to portray a negative image.”

“Accordingly, every accusation needs to be discussed properly so that we can give rights to those who deserves it. If cronyism exist, then it needs to be proven,” he said today.

Zawawi was responding to claims made by former Selangor PKR youth secretary Syed Badli Shah Syed Osman who quit the party due to a widespread of nepotism and cronyism.

Syed Badli in a statement said that the party condition in Selangor is worsening with PKR’s alleged practice of cronyism and nepotism.

He was referring to the supposedly biased distribution of political appointments in Selangor.

Speaking at a press conference at the PKR command centre in Sungai Kandis, ‘Ustaz’ Zawawi said history have proven that such practice will make it hard for a person to be fair and just in executing their duties.

He added that it is one of the main reason why he did not involve his family in his by-election campaigns.

“It will eventually became a burden to me as there might be elements of nepotism. When there’s family involved, we can’t be just,” he said.

Zawawi will be facing Barisan Nasional’s Lokman Noor Adam and independent candidate Murthy Krishnasamy on August 4.

The Sungai Kandis by-election was called following the death of Shuhaimi Shafiei on July 2 due to lymphoma.
