KUALA LUMPUR: Islamic party PAS strongly disagree with a poll which concluded that Malaysians are giving Prime Minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad a 71% approval rating.
Party Deputy President Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man on contrary had ‘failed’ the Pakatan Harapan Chairman, giving him a mere 27-30% approval rate.
He said this is because Mahathir’s administration have failed to fulfil all the pledges made in their 100 days manifesto for the May General Elections which will expire this week.
“Its an analysis from an independent body. Obviously PAS’ score for him will be much lower. I give him between 27% to 30%. Grade D, meaning he has to repeat,” jest the Kubang Kerian MP.
He was referring to a survey conducted in August by independent pollster Merdeka Center which said 71% of the 1,160 voters surveyed for the poll said they were satisfied with Dr Mahathir’s performance in his first 100 days in office.
Speaking in a conference in Parliament, Tuan Ibrahim explained the reasoning behind the grade when he said that Pakatan Harapan government had failed in coming up with a realistic manifesto to present to the people in GE14.
He said this was the reason for them not being able to fulfil the commitments within a time period set by themselves.
He added, on top failing to fulfil the promises, Putrajaya instead focuses on other matters that are not a top priority to the people.
“In failing to keep their pledges, the government are doing things that they should not be doing like coming up with the third national cars, reviving the Formula 1 race, which are not a priority right now,” he said.
Previously, Mahathir in Parliament said that the government remains committed into realising all ten promises on the basis of accountability, although admitting that not all result could be accomplished within 100 days of their ruling.
He said that the government had encountered several unforseen circumstances as they attempt to implement the promises such as amending laws, addding that there are other ministerial matters that needs to be resolved part at the same time.
