KUALA LUMPUR, June 11 — It is equally important to prevent deaths from road accidents apart from succeeding in preventing deaths due to Covid-19, said Alliance for Safe Community chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye.
In his statement today, Lee also urged Malaysians to embrace a safety culture, with vehicles keeping a safe distance apart while on the highways and major roads.
“As we practise social distancing to avoid Covid-19, cars and motorcycles must practise road distancing by keeping a safe distance apart while on the highways and major roads.
“It’s always better to be safe than sorry. Let all Malaysians strive towards not only preventing more Covid-19 deaths but also road deaths. Let us all embrace a safety culture. One life lost is too many,” he said.
Lee was referring to yesterday’s announcement by the health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah on the number of deaths from road accidents from March 18 till June 9, amounting to a total of 507 deaths from 50,531 road accidents.
