SHAH ALAM, Aug 7 — Surau Al Jannah in Section 23 here is ordered to be closed immediately after one of its congregation is believed to have been in close contact with an individual who tested positive for Covid-19 from the Sivagangga cluster.

Selangor Islamic Religious Department (JAIS) director Mohd Shahzihan Ahmad said the Sekolah KAFA Integrasi Al-Jannah which is located on the same premises was also ordered to be closed.

He said the closure means all activities at the surau including Friday and daily congregational prayers as well as other religious programmes (pengimarahan program) are not allowed.

“However, three members of the surau committees are allowed to perform daily prayers there. Disinfection and sanitisation process will be done immediately at all areas of the surau and KAFA school,” he said in a statement today.

Mohd Shahzihan asked the surau committee members to monitor the issues and increase their security measures.

“The surau would only be allowed to resume its operation after getting approval from JAIS,” he said.

As of yesterday, the Health Ministry has detected 30 Covid-19 positive cases which includes children from the Sivagangga cluster.

Until now, 2,351 individuals have been screened with 1,617 found to be negative, while 704 still awaiting results.
