MB urges local authorities to take action against errant employees

SHAH ALAM, Aug 13 — Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari has urged local authorities (LAs) in the state to take stern action against enforcement officers and personnel found to be abusing power or committing malpractices and corruption.

He stressed that local authorities take firm action and do not compromise if there is really any offence and misconduct committed by their officers.

“Thank you to those who provided information on discrepancies committed,” he told reporters after attending the Selangor Restart Entrepreneurship programme organised by Hijrah Selangor here, yesterday.

Amirudin said this when asked to comment on the arrest of four Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) enforcement personnel by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) on Tuesday, on suspicion of soliciting and accepting bribes to protect illegal business premises in Sungai Buloh, near here.

He said that the case will not affect or prevent any local authorities in the state from continuing enforcement operations in their respective areas.

“We will also not give up implementing enforcement on top of taking appropriate action on business premises that violate the law,” he said.

Meanwhile, commenting on complaints by traders, including recipients of business financing under the Selangor Hijrah programme when their premises in Bandar Baru Sungai Buloh were ordered to close in a large-scale operation by MBSA yesterday, Amirudin said that the local authority’s action was carried out according to the law.
