1 dead, 6 injured in bombing incident in Songkhla

SONGKHLA, Oct 2 — An army soldier died and six more were injured in a bombing incident in Songkhla’s Thepa District.

The security operation’s deputy spokesman, Colonel Watcharakorn On-ngeun, said the incident took place at around 11.30am (local time) yesterday when a group of 15th Infantry Division army soldiers was making their way from Krabi to Narathiwat.

When they arrived at the place of incident, a pipe bomb was detonated, causing seven convoy members to be injured.

“They were quickly taken to the hospital. However, one of the victims, who was heavily injured, died at the hospital,” he said at a media conference.

An early investigation revealed that the pipe bomb, weighing 10 kilograms, was placed on the roadside and was detonated when the convoy arrived at the scene.

Meanwhile, Fourth Army deputy commander General Kriangkai Srirak said the security division will intensify the efforts to track the suspects who were involved in the incident.
