Exco: Works to deepen Sungai Sekamat to begin in 2021

KAJANG, Nov 26 — Construction of river embankment and works to deepen Sungai Sekamat are expected to begin next year with a total allocation of RM10 million.

State executive councillor for environment Hee Loy Sian said the project under the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) offers a long-term solution to overcome flood issues in the area.

“The work involves a distance of 10km which starts from Kampung Sungai Sekamat and we hope it will be completed by next year,” he said after visiting the project site here yesterday.

The Kajang state assemblyman said Sungai Sekamat, which is the main cause of floods in the district, had not been well-maintained until natural levees were formed.

“When the contractor does not do a good job in maintaining the riverbanks and does not properly dig up the sands that have accumulated from the flooding, the rain water that enters the river remains stagnant,” he added.
