PKNS, higher learning institutions collaborate to build entrepreneurs in services sector

By Zareef Muzammil

SHAH ALAM, Jan 13 — The Selangor State Development Corporation (PKNS) continues to work with local higher learning institutions to grow entrepreneurs in the services sector.

Its entrepreneur development manager Yuzawati Yusof said the collaboration involves undergraduates and graduates of Mara Skills Institute, GiatMara, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia, Universiti Teknologi Mara and Universiti Putra Malaysia.

Yuzawati said the expertise of the institutions in terms of cleaning, washing, interior designing and grass-cutting services were applied to their business scope.

“Those who are still in their final year or have graduated and are yet to be employed are involved.

“We will gather and approach them to oversee the success of this programme. Undergraduates or skilled graduates including in business (studies) can work together to form a company,” she said.

Yuzawati was speaking at the media conference led by state executive councillor for entrepreneur development Rodziah Ismail at the De’ Palma Hotel here yesterday.

She said the corporation accepts the challenge from the Selangor government to nurture and produce more entrepreneurs in the services sector, and even believes that the goal can be achieved given its continuous support.

Meanwhile, Rodziah said the state government places full trust in the corporation to assume the responsibility of spearheading the gig (economy) or specialised services.

“Other than the digitalisation aspect which forms the main pillar, the gig economy in the construction industry is also given due attention because this is the beginning of a journey for us in this era of the new norm,” Rodziah said.
