Selangor Xtiv Virtual Marathon helps in efforts to achieve herd immunity

SHAH ALAM, June 17 — The Selangor Xtiv Virtual Marathon 2021 is offering a 10 per cent discount in the registration fee for each participant who has received a vaccination or registered under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme in an effort to help the state government achieve its herd immunity target by the end of this year.

Selangor Youth, Sports and Human Capital Development Committee chairman Mohd Khairuddin Othman said until yesterday, almost 1,000 entries had been received and that the number was expected to increase until the registration deadline on July 14.

Apart from receiving T-shirts, certificates and medals, the state government believes the programme will not only help the public adopt a healthy lifestyle, but also as a sign of support for efforts to achieve the herd immunity target so that the people can return to normal life.

“According to data from the Covid-19 Vaccine Supply Access Guarantee Special Committee (JKJAV), until June 13, the cumulative number in Malaysia is 4,490,270 doses (administered) and this figure is expected to increase further if there is good cooperation from all parties, including through the organisation of state government programmes,” he said in a statement today.
