SHAH ALAM, Oct 14 — Selangor State Health director Datuk Dr Sha’ari Ngadiman became the first individual in the state to receive the Covid-19 vaccine booster dose today.
In a Facebook post, the Selangor State Health Department (JKNS) said the administration of the vaccine booster dose is to ensure higher optimal protection for the population, especially for high-risk groups.
Following Dr Shaari, 29 other health workers at the Shah Alam Hospital also received their booster dose.
Yesterday Health Minister Khairy Jamaluddin said his ministry will start administering the Covid-19 vaccine booster doses to senior citizens aged 60 and above, as well as frontliners who have completed their vaccination at least six months ago.
Khairy said the dispensing of the booster dose is done voluntarily, and it is free under the National Covid-19 Immunisation Programme (PICK).
The booster dose is for recipients who were earlier fully vaccinated with the Comirnaty vaccine produced by Pfizer-BioNTech, as they would receive the same vaccine (homologous vaccination) which is the Comirnaty vaccine.
