MB: Selangor civil servants must act in accordance with the law

By Amin Ridzuan Ishak

SHAH ALAM, Nov 8 — Selangor Menteri Besar has urged the state’s civil servants to act in accordance with the law, which does not violate the openness and accountability principles in performing duties.

Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the principles also must be applied in a situation where the civil servants receive supporting letters signed by him or other state executive councillors.

“Do not think that each time we (Menteri Besar and state executive councillor) sign the letter, it must be approved.

“Sometimes, we have put remarks such as ‘to be reviewed’ (in the supporting letter), which means it has to be reviewed (not approved).

“But what happened was, they (civil servants) became agitated and assumed that it must be approved.

“This is not how it works, and each of us must upkeep the principle, which is to act accordingly with law,” he said when speaking during the state’s civil servants assembly at Dewan Jubli Perak, here today.

Amirudin also wants the state’s civil servants to have test-resistant behaviour to shape Selangor into a developed state to meet the demands of its citizens.

He added that Selangor is different from other states. Each of its policies often becomes an interest of others in the country and is inhabited by many influential groups who have their demands.
