SHAH ALAM, Nov 26 — The state government believes that Sungai Klang can be an alternative raw water source, which would benefit the people of Selangor.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said this is due to the conservation efforts currently being carried out at the Telok Kapas landfill area.
“Previously, the Telok Kapas landfill was one of the contributing factors of the river’s pollution,” he said during the tabling of the 2022 Selangor Budget (#Selangor2022) at the Selangor State Legislative Assembly here today.
Amirudin said the construction of a log boom and the cleaning of floating waste using the Interceptor 002 garbage patch machine had helped various city or municipal councils, including Klang, Shah Alam, Subang Jaya, and Petaling Jaya, to collect an estimated 75,402 metric tons of garbage on average, from 2016 until September this year.
“To gauge the effectiveness of the log boom and Interceptor 002, they have been installed at four locations along Sungai Klang, equipped with sensors to monitor the water quality level,” he said.
Similarly, the Menteri Besar said water taxi activities along the Klang River, first introduced in 2019, are aimed at promoting the state’s tourism industry.
“Stretching 15 kilometres along the river, the water taxi activity is an effort by Landasan Lumayan Sdn Bhd, in collaboration with Tourism Selangor,” he said.
The state government has allocated approximately RM2.343 billion for the 2022 Selangor Budget (#Selangor2022), to be dispersed to the people through five core strategies.
