SHAH ALAM, Dec 9 — The development of e-sports in Selangor next year will focus on three main aspects, in line with the state’s aspiration to produce more industry players on a global level.
Selangor E-Sport Association president Abdul Razak Datuk Dr Mohd Yusof said these aspects include players, commentators and coaches, which will complement the sport’s ecosystem as well as realise the possibility of developing a career in the field with lucrative wages.
He said the association has also held several discussions with state executive councillor for sports Mohd Khairuddin Othman, focusing on ways to expand the industry.
“There have been continuous organisations of e-sports competitions, but no development programme after these competitions. What is the next thing for the player after winning the game? They could possibly be trained to become commentators or coaches.
“There are many players and e-sports teams, therefore what they need is a coach or a commentator in order to ensure the industry can progress accordingly,” Abdul Razak said when contacted yesterday.
Under the 2022 Selangor Budget, RM1.2 million has been allocated for e-sports programmes through the installment and development of the sport in each district.
Meanwhile Todak Valorant coach Nor Aiman Nor Azham has lauded the state’s commitment to e-sports with the allocation of funds for the industry, aligned with Selangor’s aspiration to be the e-sports leader in Malaysia.
However, the professional player advised the allocation be used prudently in discovering more young talents.
“I am ecstatic every time I hear any announcement related to e-sports. Hence, I hope those who are managing the funds will be able to implement the programme effectively,” said the 28-years old, who has been active in the sport since 2016.
Last year Selangor introduced the Xtiv Virtual programme, which recorded over 250,631 participants and over 18 million views on social media platforms.
The programme’s competitions include PUBG, Mobile Legends Bang Bang, Call of Duty Mobile, Pro Evolution Soccer 2021, FIFA Pro Club, Selangor Xtive Ride, and the Selangor Xtive Virtual Jump Rope Challenge.
