SHAH ALAM, Feb 21 — Approximately 72,451 families affected by the severe flooding in Selangor at the end of last year have received RM1,000 in aid from the state government, as of 10am today.
The funds, via the Bantuan Selangor Bangkit (BSB) initiative, involves an allocation of RM72.58 million, including RM130,000 given to the next-of-kin of 13 flood victims who perished in the disaster.
Based on the information provided, Klang remains the district with the highest number of victim families with 23,450, followed by Petaling with 16,917, and Kuala Langat with 10,282.
Other districts include Hulu Langat with 7,834, Sepang (6,878) Kuala Selangor (5,915), Gombak (1,041), Hulu Selangor (94) and Sabak Bernam (40).
The extraordinary rainfall of up to 360mm from December 17 to December 19 last year resulted in many locations in Selangor becoming submerged in water.
Following this, the state government prepared RM100 million for BSB and to fund infrastructural repairs, in addition to cash contributions to households and the next-of-kin of deceased flood victims.
Individuals who qualify for aid include three categories; flood victims who were evacuated to gazetted temporary relief centres, flood victims who were evacuated to private locations, and those who chose to remain with their homes.
