SHAH ALAM, April 6 — Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) is organising a campaign to collect used cooking oil in an effort to encourage the public to care for the environment.
PJ mayor Mohamad Azhan Md Amir said they had set up seven collection centres including four located in Ramadan bazaars at PJS 2 Taman Medan, SS6 Kelana Jaya, Section 4 Kota Damansara and PJU 10 Damansara Damai.
He said the collection centres at the four Ramadan bazaars are open from 4pm to 6.30pm.
Mohamad Azhan said the other used cooking oil collection centres are located at PJ Eco Recycling Plaza (Tuesday to Sunday), Taman Jaya Lake Recycling Centre (Monday to Friday) and the MBPJ Solid Waste Management and Public Cleansing Department at Menara MBPJ.
“People just need to collect the used cooking oil and bring it to the seven collection centres to be weighed. MBPJ will pay RM1 for each kilogramme (kg).
“However, used cooking oil mixed with water or foreign objects will not be accepted. Collectors that bring in the highest amount of used cooking oil will receive attractive prizes,” he said in a statement.
Mohamad Azhan said from 2021 to March this year MBPJ managed to collect 1,987 kg of used cooking oil.
“The used cooking oil is recycled to make biodiesel, soaps and candles,” he said.
