PETALING JAYA, June 18 — The Petaling Jaya City Council (MBPJ) will evaluate any form of action to be taken against owners who conducted renovations on their houses without permission.
Petaling Jaya mayor Mohamad Azhan Md Amir said any decision made needed to take into account various aspects as some of the houses had been renovated for more than 10 years.
“Some of them inherited the house from their parents. So we will try to help solve this matter using the win-win negotiation concept.
“But at the same time we will ensure that this matter does not happen again because it involves the safety aspect and the rights of the community,” he said after handing over food baskets to recipients at the Lembah Subang People’s Housing Project (PPR) flats here today.
He said MBPJ has the right to demolish any illegal structure but will try to avoid it if the matter could be resolved with a more appropriate action.
“If we simply follow the Act, it needs to be demolished, but we are dealing with people who have feelings and emotions, so we need to handle this matter carefully,” he said.
Recently, illegal renovations involving apartments in several areas went viral on social media and resulted in mixed reactions from the community.
