Local authorities urged to monitor food court cleanliness — Exco

By Siti Rohaizah Zainal

SUBANG JAYA, Sept 25 — Local authorities have been urged to conduct spot checks on all food courts to ensure the premises remain clean.

State executive councillor for public health Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud said local councils have set several criteria for the traders to ensure their premises are always clean.

“The traders must take care of the cleanliness of their premises, while local councils could conduct spot checks. The local authority can terminate the trader’s contract if their premises are found dirty after several checks have been made.

“As for the customer, they should avoid going to the dirty premises as this could also serve as a reminder to the traders to take care of their premises’ cleanliness,” she said when met after launching the Medan Selera Puchong Permai, here today.

Meanwhile, Siti Mariah also suggested that food court traders diversify their menu to attract more customers.

“The local council has provided well-equipped premises including toilet and surau facilities to the traders and customers. Therefore, the traders should try to enliven the atmosphere there so that the food court could attract more customers.

“The most important thing is they have to take good care of the food court and its facilities so that more customers will benefit from it,” she said.
