SHAH ALAM, Sept 30 — The Klang Municipal Council (MPK) has mobilised 25 types of multi-purpose vehicles (MPV) and related equipment, to handle the possibility of flooding in light of the high-tide phenomenon.
Its president Noraini Roslan said a total of 146 officers are also on hand to deal with the floods.
“We have already carried out equipment and machinery inspections, asides from the 146 officers on standby to face the possibility of floods,” she said during the ninth MPK meeting for 2022 yesterday.
Noraini reminded residents to take necessary precautions, as the sea level could reach up to 5.5 metres during the Northeast Monsoon phenomenon.
From yesterday until today, the state government ran a disaster simulation programme emphasising communication between agencies when launching rescue operations, in anticipation of floods later in the year.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the programme also included a review and update of the standard operating procedures (SOP) for rescuing, in line with the National Security Council’s ruling.
Some 343 personnel from 67 agencies took part in the disaster simulation, to ensure all parties are prepared when it comes to their services, equipment and assets.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department has predicted that Selangor will shift from the Southwest Monsoon to the Northeast Monsoon, with a rainfall rate of 100 to 400 millimetres, starting in mid-September until December.
