Burst bund: Repair works ongoing — DID

SHAH ALAM, Nov 6 — The Department of Irrigation and Drainage (DID) is actively working to repair the bund that was reported to have burst early this morning, following the flood that hit the Tanjong Karang rice mill and its surrounding area.

The department said that the flood incident occurred due to the overflowing of Sungai Tengi following the high tide phenomenon.

Following the Sungai Tengi water overflow incident around 4am this morning, the DID said it immediately carried out repair works on the burst bund. However, due to the strong current, the area to repair became bigger.

“A mobile pump was activated immediately and repair work continued, and the nearby tidal gate was opened at 8am this morning,” read the statement.

This morning, the media reported that seven in a family had to be evacuated after their house was flooded after a bund in Tanjong Karang, near here, burst early today.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department director, Norazam Khamis, in a statement, said that all the evacuees, aged between four and 70, were moved to a neighbour’s house and the one-metre-high water had since receded, and the situation was now under control.
