SHAH ALAM, March 18 — The recognition of the Gombak-Hulu Langat Geopark (GHL) as a national geopark is indicative of the state government’s efforts to protect and conserve the environment.
Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the status of GHL, the seventh such park in Malaysia, will serve to attract the presence of domestic and international tourists, as well as the fact that GHL contains the Gombak Selangor Quartz Ridge, the longest of its kind in Southeast Asia.
“GHL has been recognised as a national geopark within a brief period of time. This is proof of our capabilities in preserving the environment,” he said.
Amirudin was speaking during the wind-up session on the debate over the royal speech by Sultan Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Alhaj, at the State Legislative Assembly sitting yesterday.
On Monday (March 13), the Sultan congratulated the state government for GHL’s certification as the seventh national geopark.
His Royal Highness said this recognition will strengthen Selangor’s efforts in environmental preservation, as well as guarantee the well-being of the people, sustainable development, as well as preserving the state’s geological, cultural and biological heritage.
