Luas issues waste management guide for open houses to avoid water supply disruptions

By Suhaila Shahrul Annuar

SHAH ALAM, April 23 — Those looking to organise open houses for Hari Raya Aidilfitri have been advised to follow the guidelines issued by the Selangor Water Management Authority (Luas) for the festive period.

Doing so will prevent any instances of water supply disruptions from occurring.

It said those holding open houses must ensure that food waste and solid waste are collected properly, before being disposed of at landfills.

“This will enable the garbage to be disposed of by the authorities, in order to curb pollution. Disposing of food waste and garbage into rivers is strictly prohibited, as it will result in river pollution and lead to water supply problems during the festive season,” Luas said.

The guidelines educating members of the public on caring for water resources in conjunction with Hari Raya Aidilfitri also prohibited the direct disposal of oil into sinks or drains.

Instead, the oil waste must be collected and taken to a recycling centre.

“Do not take this matter lightly, as water supply disruptions during the festive season can be prevented altogether if you follow the steps listed,” it said.

Luas reminded the public to contact the agency at its landline at 03 5511 1800 or on WhatsApp at 019 264 7904, should they spot any suspicious activities that could result in river pollution.
