Sijangkang agricultural products centre to open for business next May

SHAH ALAM, March 3 — The state government will open an auction centre for agricultural products in Sijangkang, Kuala Langat, by next May.

State executive councillor for infrastructure and agriculture Izham Hashim said the two-acre centre that stores various crops is currently being renovated.

“This initiative was inspired by observing the practices of farmer while on a working visit to South Korea and Japan. The farmers there gathered all the crops at a central location for sale to wholesalers, retailers and consumers.

“We also do not want farmers to produce but it does not continue until the supply is cut off in the market. Through this center, farmers will continue to bring crops to sell to consumers,” he said at the Kota Raja Madani Agriculture Carnival at Wisma Koperasi Warga Hijrah Selangor Bhd (Kohijrah), here.

He added that the auction centre will offer prices that are below the market rate in addition to providing high quality, fresh produce.
