KLANG, OCT 18: The State Government is taking several measures to avoid floods in Kampung Batu Empat following the high-tide phenomenon.
Dato’ Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali said, among the measures taken are providing 4,000 sandbags and 9 mobile pumps to pump-out water at required sites.
The Selangor Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) also provides 11 ready-to-use mobile pumps for rainy seasons and 9 have been installed in Sabak Bernam and Klang in preparation for the coming high tide.
“The broken bunds occurred 40 metres away due to the absence of ‘bakau’ wood retainers, causing it to give way when water concentrated in the area. However, repairs are underway.

“JPS guarantees that all works will be completed, including placing the 4,000 sandbags to elevate the bunds, before high tide starts again at 6 am. We hope this time we can prevent the water from overflowing into the village,” said Mohamed Azmin.
He said that yesterday evening when visiting the site where the bunds were broken near Sungai Keramat jetty in Kampung Batu Empat.
He said that the State Government had given the residents early notice to move to the relief centre provided.
When talking about the broken bunds, Mohamed Azmin said that those bunds were not included in the RM4.3 million budget to upgrade bunds across Selangor.
However, they are part of the RM3 million budget in the 11th Malaysia Plan, which also include plans to upgrade bunds in Rantau Panjang, Kampung Tok Muda and Sungai Janggut fishermen base.
