22,369 voters removed from Sementa

KAPAR, OCT 6: The proposed study on the delineation of electoral boundaries in N.43 Sementa saw 22,369 voters removed.
Sementa Assemblyman Dr Daroyah Alwi said those voters will be put in N42 Meru, N45 Selat Kelang and N44 Sungai Pinang (now Bandar Baru Kelang) constituencies.
She said seven out of the eight areas were also removed from Sementa.
The areas are Pekan Kapar, Batu 9 Kapar, Taman Klang Utama 1, Taman Kapar Indah, Batu 10 Kapar, Sungai Kapar Indah and Taman Klang Utama 2.

“These are areas where KEADILAN had comfortably won in the last General Election (PRU13).
“Additionally, these areas are also populated by a majority of Chinese and Indians.
“While the areas retained in Sementa are areas that KEADILAN lost or had a narrow win, which are coincidentally mostly populated by Malays,” she said in a media conference in her office.
The recommended study also showed that N42 Meru will lose 7,489 voters to Sementa from Bukit Kapar Utara, Bukit Kapar Selatan and Kapar.
Meanwhile, a total of 10,632 voters from Kampung Sungai Pinang, Rantau Panjang, Kampung Batu Tiga and Teluk Kapas which are predominantly populated by Malays will be included in Sementa.
Dr Daroyah said the recommendation will bring victory to Barisan Nasional (BN) and defeat KEADILAN in the 14th General Election.
“We are protesting as this is unfair and most disappointing. The Election Commission (EC) should be neutral and fair to all candidates.
“Following this recommendation, Sementa is seen as losing a town as a centre for locals to participate in activities related to economy, education, clinics, market and places of worship,” she said.

She said the composition of Malays increased by 75%, while Chinese declined by 13% and Indians fell by 16% after the recommended delineation.
“This shows that EC has dismissed the spirit of multi-ethnic harmony.
“The racial split will be more pronounced if the EC’s recommendation is approved,” she said.
She also commented that the proposal is lopsided and inconsistent with established principles.
“It is more favorable to BN for the coming general election and against the principles of Section 2 Part II, the Thirteenth Schedule of the Federal Constitution,” she said.
