AMPANG, DEC 4: As many as 300 participants joined the Kids Eco-Challenge programme organised by the Ampang Jaya Municipal Council (MPAJ) and Cyclic Sport to increase awareness about the environment.
Programme director Azlihana Abdul Rahman said the effort to create awareness is important and begins with children by organising outdoor activities besides just reading and holding campaigns.
“The purpose of the event is to teach what eco is to kids by joining activities that we have organised like maze run, crowling, slide dan others.
“The programme is open to the entire Selangor population, though most of the participants are from Ampang, she told SelangorKini.
She said this at the MPAJ Kids Eco Challenge programme at  Trek MTB MPAJ, Taman Bukit Indah, Ampang.
Meanwhile MPAJ Youth Department Director Khairil Azhar Ismail said MPAJ allocated RM10,000 for this initial programme.
“Go Green programmes that incorporate forest elements expose participants to the environment and also reduce the use of gadgets.
“Judging from the positive response from Ampang residents, we might make this a yearly event,” he said.
There were four categories in which participants competed in, including Super Boy (7-13 years), Super Girl (7-13 years), Mixed Super Team and Easy Kids for children between five and seven years.
Total prizes were worth RM18,000 and winners took home cash prizes, medals, T-shirts and other prizes.
