SHAH ALAM, APR 17: Jalan Kundang in Bandar Baru Kundang, Gombak, will be temporarily closed starting today for repair works due to flash flood yesterday.
The Public Works Department (JKR) South-West District engineer, Samsul Nizam Zulkapli said the one week road closure is to repair the road structure and landslide had caused damaged to almost 400 houses.
“However, repairs on road structure and hillside that has collapsed would depend on the weather.
“The flood was caused by heavy rain at the Sungai Kuang basin causing water to overflow and unable to flow into the river,” he said in a statement.
Samsul said the current water level status at the Kuan River is 4.2 metres while at Anak Sungai Kuang, the water level is 3.1 metres.
“JKR has planned for flood insulation at both, Sungai Kuang and Sungai Kundang for phase one, as a long-term flood mitigation step. Invitation for tender has also been issued last April 10.
“Among the areas affected are Kampung Melayu Sri Kundang, Bandar Baru Kundang (Block A,B,C,E,F and G), Kampung Damai (Lorong Melur Tambahan), Kampung Cempedak, Taman Rahmat Jaya Fasa 4, Kampung Melayu Sungai Buloh, Kampung Gombak, Kampung Setia and Kampung Bunga Raya,” he said.
