Selangor’s effort to help fishermen commendable

BY ERMIZI MUHAMAD
SHAH ALAM, OCT 9: The State Government’s effort to help fishermen in coastal areas should be commended, said Sekinchan Assemblyman, Ng Suee Lim.
He said, the overall responsibility for fishermen’s welfare should be in the Federal Government’s jurisdiction.
However, he said the state’s administration led by Dato’ Menteri Besar, Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali and State Government Exco, Zaidy Abdul Talib have effectively taken the responsibility.
“The State Government with its limited capacity has been consistently taking the responsibility although the fishermen’s overall welfare is under the ministry’s jurisdiction.
“For example, the State Government has helped with various policies and initiatives such as GPS equipment aid, nets and machines,” he said to SelangorKini.
The State Government had previously allocated RM1.6 million to provide fishing gear to fishermen as well as fish food to Selangor aquaculture entrepreneurs.
In addition, RM600,000 is allocated for the aid of equipment for livestock pools involving 168 recipients.
At the same time, the 2018 Budget will see a number of new initiatives in helping fishermen improve their income.
