Workplace bully: Health Ministry to sit down with junior doctors

By Syauqi Jamil

KUALA LUMPUR: Health Minister Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad will be organising a closed door dialogue session with junior doctors in an attempt to curb workplace bullying.

He said that the session will be conducted hand in hand with the Graduate Training Committee (Jawatankuasa Latihan Siswazah) nationwide, in stages.

“Although we have channels for them to lodge their complaints, we understand that many junior doctors and housemen are afraid to come forward fearing that they may be victimised.

“We will host dialogues with them. The director-general, his deputy or myself will attend if need be, because we need to get to the bottom of this,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby earlier.

The Kuala Selangor lawmaker was commenting on the findings of a survey by the Doctors Only Bulletin Board System (DOBBS).

The study reported that 79.63% of respondents who are junior doctors and housemen had experienced bullying.

In a shocking discovery, it also reported that 17% was bullied so bad that they have considered suicide.
