KUALA LUMPUR: Economic Affairs Minister Mohamed Azmin Ali said there was never an official meeting that took place between him and the Singapore Transport Ministry (MoT).
He added that he never even mentioned to the media of ever officially discussing the Kuala Lumpur-Singapore High Speed Rail (HSR) project with the republic counterparts.
“Did I say anything about meeting the (Singapore) Ministry of Transport officially?” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby yesterday.
Previously, Singapore MoT in a statement had denied any meetings between its top officials and Azmin on HSR last weekend.
On Monday, Azmin had described a meeting he had on HSR with ‘senior officials’ in Singapore as simply ‘positive’
Elaborating further on the matter, Azmin said that Malaysia will propose another official meeting with MoT after he firmed up the date for the formal talks.
“I will present our case to Singapore with the mandate given to me by the Cabinet. It is only fair for them to have this opportunity to listen to me at the official meeting,” he said.
I’ve been loyal to Reformasi cause since 1998
After fighting for PKR since 1998 through the ‘Reformasi’ days, Azmin who is also the party’s incumbent Deputy President believes that thr members have seen him in action and will make the right choice.
“I have been in the party for the past 20 years. The real challenge of this ‘Reformasi’ was in 1998 and I was there since.”
“I have been so loyal to the cause and the struggle. The members have seen me in action so I’ll leave it for them to decide,” he told reporters at the Parliament lobby last night.
Asked to comment on his chances against his challenger, current PKR vice president Rafizi Ramli, Azmin briefly replied saying that any party members who are eligible to contest has the right to offer their services.
