SHAH ALAM – Duli Yang Maha Mulia (DYMM) The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah and Tengku Permaisuri Selangor, Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin expressed their condolences to the family of the late historian and academician, Professor Emeritus Tan Sri Dr Khoo Kay Kim, 82, who passed away on 28 May.

The sultan has known the late Kay Kim for long time through his activities in the Royal Asiatic Society, describing Kay Kim’s departure as a major loss to the country.

“I want to express sadness and sorrow when I heard the news about the passing of the National Historian, Prof. Emeritus Tan Sri Dato ‘Dr. Khoo Kay Kim,” said the sultan.

“engku Permaisuri Norashikin  and I would like to extend our condolences to the late Kay Kim’s wife, Puan Sri Rathi Khoo and their children, Eddin, Rubin and Mavin,” he said on his Facebook page, the Selangor Royal Office.

Sultan Sharafuddin said the contribution of the late Kay Kim as one of the individuals who drafted the Rukun Negara was very admirable.

Additionally, the late Kay Kim had given his views and advice on current issues, particularly those that touch on the historical and sports arenas.

“Recently, the late Kay Kim has helped me to publish a book that summarizes the history of Selangor Football that will be released later this year,” said the Sultan.

“To commemorate the services of the deceased to the state of Selangor, Beta has awarded the late with the title of Honorable Dato’ Paduka Mahkota Selangor (DPMS) in 2009,” said the Sultan.

“I’m sure the legacy of Tan Sri Dr. Khoo Kay Kim will continue toinspire many in Malaysia’s history and will continue to contribute to the development of human capital in the country.”
