Selangor Ready to Host SUKMA 2022

BANGI – Local authorities and state government agencies are poised to launch the Sports Association of Malaysia (SUKMA) 2022 if Selangor is given the responsibility to host the biennial Games.

Selangor Menteri Besar Amirudin Shari said the state government was currently working hard to secure the right to organize.

“We are lobbying at the highest level to host SUKMA which we last hosted in 1998 and Insya-Allah after more than 20 years we can again host it,” he said.

“We hope Selangor will be the best host and this is a platform for the athletes to perform their best,” he added.

He said this when officiating the closing ceremony of the 13th Selangor Sports Championship at the RHR Hotel Uniten Bangi.

Amirudin said in addition to it being the best platform for athletes, SUKMA will also provide the experience needed to local authorities and state government agencies to organize the biggest national sporting event.

Amirudin also expressed confidence that Selangor would be able to host the tournament later.

Earlier, EXCO Youth & Sports Development and Human Capital Development, Mohd Khairuddin Othman said Selangor had the potential to host the SUKMA event after more than 20 years.

He said this was because Selangor had various facilities as well as experienced officers in organizing major sports events.

“I am confident that the Chief Minister will lobby and assist the Federal Minister, Dato’ Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali for us to host it,” he said.
