SHAH ALAM, Jan 10 — The spread of the influenza disease in Selangor is still under control as regular monitoring is carried to curb an outbreak, said Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said the state government would also allow schools in Selangor to close down should the number of infections continues to increase.

“We have been informed of the case in Cyberjaya and awaiting updates from the state Health, Welfare, Women and Family Empowerment executive councillor,” he said in reference to Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud.

“If there are signs of a serious outbreak in other areas as well, then we may have to close down the schools and restrict the people from visiting disease-prone areas.”

Amirudin was speaking to reporters after officiating the Jalan B49 Persiaran Mokhtar Dahari Development Project here today.

On Thursday, it was reported that 21 people in Selangor were tested positive for Influenza A since January 1. However, no schools were closed in Selangor due to the infection as the situation here was under control.

Out of the total number of patients infected, 20 are students from Petaling Utama, Sepang, Kuala Langat, Klang and Petaling Perdana, and one teacher from Sekolah Kebangsaan Labohan Dagang in Kuala Langat.
