Selangor MB hopes the Lunar New Year inspires all towards prosperity

SELAYANG, Jan 24 — Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Amirudin Shari expressed his hopes that the Chinese New Year would inspire the people to prosper together as a nation.

During the traditional meet with the Tiong Hua people in Sungai Tua, Gombak and Batu Caves today, Amirudin said the customary visit, which has continued for 10 years, was a show of appreciation towards those celebrating the festive season.

“Traditionally, I would gift the people oranges, calendars and ‘ang pau’ to those who celebrate the Lunar New Year festival.

“I would like to wish the people of Selangor, especially the Tiong Hua community, a Happy Chinese New Year. I hope the new year would inspire the people to prosper together,” he said when met during his visit at the Sungai Tua constituency today.

Earlier, Amirudin had given out oranges to the people and retailers at the Selayang Baru morning market.

Also present during the visit was his wife Datin Seri Masdiana Muhamad.

Meanwhile, a resident of Kampung Laksamana, Batu Caves, Miao Jun, 49, had expressed his excitement when Amirudin, who is also the Sungai Tua assemblyman, had visited his home.

“I had waited for his (Amirudin) arrival since morning and I am very much delighted. I hope the tradition continues in the future,” said Miao.

Another resident, Ah Lian, 48, had complimented Amirudin and Masdiana for their friendly character.

“It was pleasant to see their friendliness with the people and we are thankful for their yearly visit to our homes,” she said.
