SHAH ALAM, March 10 — The state government has formed a task force assigned to control and monitor the Covid-19 outbreak in the state, which is headed by former Health Minister Datuk Seri Dzulkefly Ahmad.

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the decision was made following a meeting convened by the Covid-19 Special Action Council earlier today.

“The State Health Department had briefed the council on the latest development of Covid-19 in Selangor. We found that 60 per cent of the Covid-19 related cases involved those who are from Selangor,” he said in a statement today.

Amirudin said following the meeting, Dzulkefly had agreed to lead the task force.

With the collaboration of the Smart Selangor Command Centre, Amirudin said the state government is currently identifying high-risk locations in the state.

“The Smart Selangor Command Centre will provide us with Geographic Information Systems where it could assist authorities in the state on the next course of action in containing the virus.

“The state government prioritises the healthcare of the public and will do whatever necessary to contain the outbreak (Covid-19),” he added.

Amirudin on Saturday had instructed that all events involving huge gatherings to be postponed in Selangor.

Malaysia has 18 confirmed positive Covid-19 cases as of Monday, bringing the country’s total to 117.
