Selangor to identify Covid-19 hotspots, says MB

SHAH ALAM, March 17 — Selangor is taking several proactive measures to contain the Covid-19 outbreak, including identifying the hot spots in the state through contact tracing.

In an Instagram post yesterday, Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said that the state will emulate the South Korean government’s approach of ‘whole of government, whole of society’ to pinpoint the crucial areas.

“Our efforts will be based on the operation using GPS (Global Positioning System) and GIS (geographic information system) to identify the hot spots.

“The state government will also utilise the Smart Selangor Parking phone app to disseminate information effectively through push notifications,” said Amiruddin, who said the application now has over 900,000 users.

Following the third meeting of the state Selangor Task Force for Covid-19 (STFC), yesterday, Amiruddin said a new communication platform will be set up to share on the latest developments on Covid-19 in Selangor.

Amirudin said the state government will also be formulating an economic stimulus package to cushion the Covid-19 impact.

“I will be announcing the Selangor economic stimulus package to lessen the Covid-19 impact on the state’s social and economic sector as well as the people,” Amirudin said, adding that the package is being finalised.

Amirudin said a total of 104 public libraries managed by Selangor Public Library Corporation (PPAS) will be closed until March 31 to curb the spread of the coronavirus to the staff and visitors.

He said a team of volunteers from Team Selangor, Penggerak Belia Tempatan (PeBT), Pusat Wanita Berdaya and several other state government agencies will be formed to help the health sector by spreading awareness on Covid-19 preventive measures.

“We would like to stress that the people cooperate with the government by practising social distancing to avoid the spreading of the virus.

“All non-essential trips should be avoided and employers are encouraged to allow their employees to work from home,” he said.
