34 pct asymptomatic Covid-19 cases recorded in Selangor, says MB

SHAH ALAM, April 21 — About 34 per cent of the accumulated Covid-19 confirmed cases in Selangor were asymptomatic carries, says the Menteri Besar.

Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari this has led the state administration to execute the large-scale Covid-19 screening across the state in order to curb the spread of the infection.

As of noon yesterday, Selangor registered a total of 1,345 recorded cases.

“We have taken aggressive measures by going into the (hotspot) areas instead of waiting for the people to come and get tested or by doing close contact screening only.

“That is why we have initiated the targetted community screening. If we can are able to use rapid testing as advised by the Health Ministry, we would be able to get more people tested, including those who are asymptomatic.

“Those who are without symptoms are very dangerous because they can be an agent in carrying the disease to the public,” said Amirudin during a Facebook Live interaction session today with PKR president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Aminuddin Harun and Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow today.

Amirudin said the state government was fortunate to have the expertise of former Health Minister Datuk Seri Dr Dzulkefly Ahmad on board in the Selangor Task Force for Covid-19.

“I hope to see that the states (Selangor, Penang, and Negri Sembilan) can exchange insights and collaborate on the effective measures taken to fight the Covid-19 outbreak.

“I would like to commend the Penang government’s effective communications and the participation of its people, which resulted in no new recorded cases in the state over the past few days,” Amiruddin added.

Selangor had on April 11 begun the big-scale Covid-19 testing operations in several identified red zones across Selangor.

The programme, which focuses those in the high-risk groups and the elderly, includes a door-to-door initiative as well as a drive-thru service in selected locations.
