Almost half confirmed Covid-19 cases in Malaysia fully recovered

SHAH ALAM, April 14 — The recovery rate for Covid-19 in Malaysia has reached almost half of the total 4,987 confirmed cases.

As of noon today, Health director-general Datuk Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 202 patients have fully recovered from the disease, pushing the total recoveries to 2,478 or a recovery rate of 49.7 per cent.

He said 170 new cases were registered, which means more recoveries were recorded.

“A total of 60 patients are still being treated in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and 33 of them require respiratory aid,” he said during the press conference on Covid-19 at the Health Ministry (MOH) in Putrajaya today.

Dr Noor Hisham said five new deaths were reported, which included an unidentified man found dead in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, on April 6.

“Case 4,532 is an adult man believed to be a foreign citizen. The sample taken from the body during the autopsy for Covid-19 testing was found to be positive on April 11.

“The case is currently under police investigation,” he said.

The death toll in Malaysia has reached 82, or a 1.64 per cent mortality rate.

The other four deaths recorded were as follow:

  • Case 2,052: A 65-year-old Malaysian man with a history of diabetes, high blood pressure and kidney problem. He was treated in the Sungai Buloh Hospital on March 27 and was pronounced dead today at 5.17am.
  • Case 4,818: A 63-year-old Malaysian man who had a history of heart disease and kidney problem. He was treated in the Kuala Lumpur Hospital on April 7 and was pronounced dead on April 12, at 11.36pm.
  • Case 4,521: A 74-year-old Malaysian woman who had kidney problems and had close contact with a positive Covid-19 patient (Case 4,088), who had attended the Seri Petaling assembly. She was treated in Melaka Hospital on April 9 and was pronounced dead yesterday at 4.20pm.
  • Case 1,649: An 81-year-old Malaysian man who had diabetes and close contact with a positive Covid-19 patient (Case 343), who had attended the Seri Petaling gathering. He was treated at the Enche’ Besar Hajjah Khalsom Hospital in Johor on March 26 and was declared dead today at 11.50am.
