EPF opens i-Lestari account 2 withdrawal applications

KUALA LUMPUR, April 2 — The Employees Provident Fund (EPF) has opened the application for the i-Lestari Account 2 withdrawal scheme starting yesterday.

Chief executive officer Tunku Alizakri Alias said applicants are free to set the withdrawal limit of not exceeding RM500 per month, but he advised them to think through the amount needed as it would be for a long period of time, as it stretches to 12 months.

“They can choose to withdraw RM100 or RM50 under this scheme which runs for a year,” he said on Bernama 502 channel which was aired live yesterday.

Tunku Alizakri said the EPF received 100,011 i-Lestari withdrawal applications on the first day itself.

EPF members should not worry if they do not have access to the EPF website at the moment, as the application period is opened for one month, he said, adding that they should not rush to EPF branches, instead apply online via i-Akaun app or email.

“We want to protect their safety and health during this movement control order (MCO) period and prevent Covid-19 from spreading,” he said.

He said even though the EPF software capability has a fourfold increase, it is still insufficient to accommodate the traffic due the extraordinary number of web users visiting its website.

“We need to ensure every detail is accurate and safe. This is our members’ savings and we don’t want to mess up their applications.

“We want to do it right, so I advise EPF members to be patient… don’t worry, don’t rush,” he added.
