SHAH ALAM, April 10 — The Selangor government is putting together 5,000 Covid-19 test kits to be used for the large-scale screening in the red zones across the state.

Selangor Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari said the mass testing will begin tomorrow after the coordination of the officers involved in the programme completes today.

He said the number of individuals screened will be interactively updated, but had not elaborated on the detail.

“We will start tomorrow in several locations and will share the status update on how many people have been screened in the zones involved.

“As of now, we are putting together 5,000 test kits, in which around 400 to 500 kits will be used in one operation,” he said when met at the Selangor Covid-19 operation centre here today.

The Selangor administration had in its second stimulus package allocated some RM1.3 million for mass tests involving 5,000 people.

Earlier, Amirudin had chaired the Selangor State Security Committee meeting, which was also attended by Housing and Local Government Minister Zuraida Kamaruddin and Selangor state secretary Datuk Mohd Amin Ahmad Ahya.

Six districts in the state have been categorised as red zones — Hulu Selangor, Hulu Langat, Petaling, Klang, Gombak and Sepang.

According to the Health Ministry, as of noon yesterday, Hulu Langat registered 366 cases out of the total 1,118 cases in the state, followed by Petaling (314), Klang (152), Gombak (121), Sepang (59), Hulu Selangor (43), Kuala Selangor (29), Kuala Langat (23) dan Sabak Bernam (11).

The total number of cases across the country is at 4,228.

The ministry has classified areas with more than 40 cases as a red zone, while areas with 20 to 40 cases are considered an orange zone, while those with no recorded cases are categorised as a green zone.
