MB: Dispose of face masks, gloves properly

SHAH ALAM, April 27 — The Selangor Menteri Besar has reminded the public to properly dispose of used face masks and gloves to prevent the spread of the Covid-19 infection.

Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari improper dispose of the items could pose health risks of the people as it can cause the coronavirus to spread more easily if the virus is still present on it.

“Make sure you remove or discard face masks and gloves properly after using it.

“The virus can last on the items for hours and it could bring health risks to others as well,” he said on Twitter yesterday.

According to Alam Flora, the following are the five correct procedures to properly discard the face masks:

  1. Clean hands with soap and water or sanitiser
  2. Take off the face mask by pulling the at the straps and not the surface of the mask
  3. Fold the mask in half with the contaminated part facing inwards
  4. Wrap it tightly and put it inside a tissue paper or plastic bag before throwing it in the bin
  5. Wash hands after disposing of the mask

Used masks and gloves should not be thrown in the recycling bin.
