SHAH ALAM, April 9 — The decision on the extension of the movement control order (MCO) will be decided based the advice by the Health Ministry (MOH), says Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

The Senior Minister for security cluster said, to date, the matter has not been discussed in the Special Ministerial Committee meeting.

“As long there is no announcement, as of now, we would say that the MCO will continue until April 14, unless there is an announcement.

“I do not know if there will be one, and I cannot comment. Let us leave the matter to the MOH to decide,” he said in his daily media conference on the MCO in Putrajaya today.

The Federal government had enforced the two-week MCO to curb the Covid-19 outbreak on March 18 and had extended the second phase of the order from April 1 to 14.

Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said while the compliance rate with the MCO has reached 97 per cent across the country.

He said 300 people were arrested yesterday, which saw a drop in the number of arrests from 454 on Tuesday.

“There is a decrease of 34 per cent. Let’s hope that trend to continues,” he said.

Ismail Sabri said following the RM1,000 compound imposed beginning yesterday, 95 compound notices have been issued to the MCO violators.

The compound notices are in line with the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases Act 1988.

The violators are given two weeks to settle the RM1,000 compound. Failure to do so will land them in court.

Ismail Sabri said the police, with the help of the Malaysian Armed Forces, have mounted 769 roadblocks and inspected 433,988 vehicles nationwide

He said 36,980 spot-checks were carried out and 5,022 premises inspected by the authorities.
