Selangor Agro Market records close to RM4 mil sales

SHAH ALAM, April 17 — The Selangor Agro Market programme has recorded total sales of almost RM4 million, says the State Public Amenities, Agricultural Modernisation and Agro-based Industry Committee chairman.

Izham Hashim said since the launch of the programme on March 27 until April 16, a total of RM3,819,040.05 sales value was recorded.

“From the total sales, RM2,911,355.86 were from the direct purchases from the markets, RM84,365.38 were collected from drive-thru purchases and RM823,318.81 from online purchases,” he said in a statement today.

Izham said that the state government had allocated RM1 million in the form of a revolving fund to purchase the supply of the product from farmers, fishermen and livestock breeders.

He reiterated that the Selangor Agro Market initiative was able to address the oversupply of agricultural products during the movement control order (MCO).

On April 10, Izham said the state administration was mulling to expand the Selangor Agro Market in Ampang and Sungai Buloh.

The initiative is currently available in nine locations — Holysmoke Cafe in Section 13, Shah Alam, Mak Uda Restaurant in Section 15, Shah Alam, Mad About Cafe in Petaling Jaya, FAMA Operations Centres in Dengkil, Puchong, Kuala Selangor and Sabak Bernam, the Selayang farmer’s market (pasar tani) and My Farm Outlet in Putrajaya.

The programme was initiated to ensure that the people have access to affordable fresh produce as well as to address the oversupply issue.
