KKB by-election: Solid backing from BN to ensure victory for Harapan candidate

KUALA KUBU BAHARU, April 27 — Barisan Nasional (BN) has shown a strong commitment to ensure the victory of the Pakatan Harapan candidate in the Kuala Kubu Baharu state by-election, said DAP secretary-general Anthony Loke.

This was demonstrated by the presence of BN chairman cum Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi during the candidate nomination process today.

Wanita Umno had also mobilised its machinery to support the candidate’s campaign.

“We have no problem working with the component parties of the Unity Government… today, even the BN chairman, who is also Deputy Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, was here to show support.

“I can see a very high level of commitment from BN… Umno’s women’s wing has also been mobilised, and with the addition of the Harapan machinery, we are confident we will be able to run a successful campaign,” he said.

Loke was speaking to the press after the KKB by-election nomination process at the Hulu Selangor District Multipurpose Hall and Sports Complex.

The KKB by-election, which begins today, features a four-cornered fight between candidates from Harapan, Perikatan Nasional (PN), Parti Rakyat Malaysia (PRM), and an Independent candidate.

Pang Sock Tao, 31, is contending on the Harapan ticket, facing off against Hulu Selangor Bersatu acting division head Khairul Azhari Saut under PN, Hafizah Zainuddin (PRM), and Nyau Ke Xin (Independent).

The by-election is being held due to the demise of its incumbent Lee Kee Hiong, 58, from DAP, on March 21 due to cancer.

Early voting is on May 7, and polling is on May 11.
