SHAH ALAM, May 21 — Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has today announced that the National Security Council (NSC)’s special meeting has decided that all interstate travel will not be allowed.

Ismail Sabri, who is also the Defence Minister, said individuals attempting to travel across states will also be issued compounds as the number continues to rise.

“Authorities found that many were still travelling despite repeated warnings. Yesterday, some 1,300 people had queued up at the Kuantan district police headquarters to apply for permission to cross state borders.

“I would like to stress that the NSC special meeting today has decided that interstate travel will not be allowed for whatsoever reasons and those who were asked to turn back to their original destinations will be compounded… there is no need to ask for police permission because the police will not allow it.” Ismail Sabri told a press conference in Putrajaya today.

Ismail Sabri said as of yesterday, a total of 2,412 drivers were asked to make a turn back to their original destinations after they had attempted travelling interstate to return to their hometowns.

Meanwhile, the compliance operation taskforce led by police had made 82,288 checks on various premises nationwide yesterday to ensure that everyone complied with the standard operating procedures during the conditional MCO period, Ismail Sabri added.
