SHAH ALAM, July 29 — Police have expressed their commitment to tackling the issue of domestic violence, says state representative Lim Yi Wei.

The Kampung Tunku assemblyman said her office had received several reports of domestic abuse during the movement control order (MCO) period.

“The police take the matter seriously as it involves the safety and wellbeing of the people. We hope the issue would be resolved in the best manner,” she told SelangorKini.

Yesterday, Lim, along with social groups All Women’s Action Society and Women’s Aid organisation, had met with Petaling Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Nik Ezanee Mohd Faisal to discuss the matter.

Lim said an awareness forum will be organised in September to educate the public on the implications of domestic violence.

“The panel members of the forum will include the police. We will educate the people on how to avoid domestic abuse from happening as well as the precautionary steps,” she said.

On July 13, state executive councillor Dr Siti Mariah Mahmud had said that Selangor had recorded 90 domestic violence cases during the movement control order which was enforced on March 18.
