Fisherman fined RM2,000 because pet dog attacked woman

MELAKA, Aug 6 — A fisherman was fined RM2,000, in default three months’ jail, by the Magistrate’s Court here today because his pet dog attacked a woman.

Magistrate Mohamad Izwan Mohamed Noh meted out the fine on Liew Sea Hai, 43 who pleaded guilty to a charge of negligently failing to guard his pet dog from causing probable danger or grievous hurt to human life.

The court also ordered Liew to surrender his pet dog to the Melaka Historical City Centre (MBMB) for further action.

Liew was charged with committing the offence, resulting in the dog to cause injury on Purba Evita Kristina, 23, in front of a house at Jalan Marikh 8, Taman Tanjung Minyak Perdana here at 9.30 pm last July 27.

Earlier during mitigation, Liew’s lawyer, Surendran Chelvarajah, said Liew had chained the pet dog, but the chain broke and the dog went out of the house compound as the gate was opened.

Deputy public prosecutor Raudhah Mazman prosecuted.

Based on the facts of the case, the woman struggled with the dog for more than a minute before nearby residents went to her aid.
