RM2.24 million to upgrade sports facilities — Khairuddin

By Khairul Azran Hussin

SHAH ALAM, Aug 10 — A total of RM2.24 million is allocated for upgrade and maintenance of sports facilities in the 56 state constituencies, says Selangor State Exco on Sports, Mohd Khairuddin Othman.

Khairuddin said the state government is committed to ensuring that the facilities are in good condition in line with the goal of cultivating sports culture among the community.

“Even though the country is being hit by the Covid-19 pandemic, the allocation to maintain sports facilities has not changed, this is our commitment to creating a society that loves sports or recreation.

“Each constituency receives an allocation of RM40,000 every year and it is channelled based on the application by the elected representatives (wakil rakyat) of the respective constituencies, for example, request for an additional fund to build futsal courts or upgrade of existing infrastructure,” he said to SelangorKini recently.

Mohd Khairuddin said sports facilities at the district level would be improved from time to time in line with the Selangor’s Smart State 2025 mission.

“Selangor will never forget the aspect of sports development at the grassroots level and we want to ensure that facilities in urban and rural areas are upgraded,” he said.
