No one left behind as Selangor move towards digitalisation, smart state — MB

By Ida Nadirah Ibrahim

SHAH ALAM, Sept 7 — The Selangor government will ensure that no one is left behind despite the state moving forward towards implementing the digitalisation and smart state agenda, says Menteri Besar Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

He said the state is aware of the risks behind the technological trap, especially involving those who have lost jobs due to digitalisation and automation, and will review the impact on the people in Selangor.

Citing new ideas raised by economists such as having public wealth fund to address unemployment issues, Amirudin said such funds would be used in reskilling and upskilling of workers, to deal with the climatic changes as well as bridging the economic gap.

“This has to be a discussion involving a whole of government and whole of society approach, in which we practised in facing the Covid-19 pandemic.

“I would like to express the Selangor government’s full commitment to recovering the economy, bridging the income gap between the rich and poor, as well as ensuring prosperity and justice in order for the state to remain as Malaysia’s economic reactor,” said Amirudin in his keynote address during the 2021 Selangor Budget Dialogue at the Setia City Convention Centre, here today.

Amirudin said although the economic challenges faced would no be easily resolved, he said the state government will work hard to ensure inclusivity and that everyone would be equipped with the right tools to go through the challenges.

“The post-Covid-19 period is crucial, or the make-or-break moment, for the middle-income earners and those who are moving towards that income range,” he said.

The one-day event consists of discussion on five syndicates, namely agricultural, tourism and agro-tourism, public health and livable city, microentrepreneurs, digitalisation and urban poverty, wealth creation, and creative industry.
